Change to Aluminum and Steel Tariffs could impact your products
On August 18, 2025, the U.S. Department of Commerce expanded tariffs on steel and aluminum derivatives. They added 407 new product categories that are subject to a 50% tariff rate on their metal content. This is a significant change and extends tariffs beyond raw metals to include a wide range of manufactured products, affecting supply chains and various sectors. The actual notice can be found at this link.
Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada is looking into the impact of these tariffs on Canadian industry – including aluminum packaging of cleaners, cosmetics and personal care products (e.g. aerosol cans or aluminum lining in packaging).
