Safety Data Sheets are a crucial component for health and safety in a workplace. Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are formerly known as Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and are intended to communicate information regarding health, physical, and environmental effects that could occur during usage, shipping, and handling of the substance or mixture. Section 3 in particular is where the information on the hazardous ingredients within a product are indicated with chemical name, CAS and weight percentage.
Over the years, we have been asked if we can have a range of zero to a certain percentage. Unfortunately it is not permitted. OSHA provided some guidance on this in a standard interpretation. Below is the question as well as the response from OSHA.
Please ensure that you know what components are within your product so the proper disclosure of chemicals can occur within this section. As you can see from the above picture, OSHA does NOT allow the use of Zero Percent.
