The CCCR Checklist for Retail Label Review

By: Ivy Tang, Product Safety Specialist, email

If your business has been issued a Notice of Inspection from Health Canada, you may be required to provide classification records for your products. Most commonly, a Health Canada product safety officer will request documentation and records verifying your products are classified in accordance with the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 (CCCR, 2001) by a specified deadline. Information you may have to submit includes: test reports, product labels, reference materials, hazard assessments, and container specifications.

Dell Tech offers a variety of services to help you meet your deadlines:

  • Creation of a CCCR Checklist for classification and record-keeping. This is a comprehensive document justifying how your product is or is not included in each of the five hazard categories in the CCCR 2001.
  • All toxicological calculations and reference literature.
  • Performance testing and submitting results. Common tests for consumer products include Flash Point (ASTM D56 or 93), Schedule 1 Flame Projection/Flashback, acid or alkali reserve, and OECD 435 or Corrositex testing for dermal irritation. This may be necessary to determine the hazard category of the product.
  • Full label review and authoring of US/CAN SDSs.
  • Able to advise on packaging specifications, such as child-resistant containers.
  • Able to speak with the compliance officer on your behalf, and submit all documents directly.

Receiving a “stop sale” or “stop distribution” order can hurt your business. Dell Tech can save you time by making sure your packaging and labeling are compliant and ready for review. Contact us today for more information.
