Final Vaping Products Labelling and Packaging Regulations (VPLPR) were published in the Canada Gazette, Part II on December 24th, 2019 and will come into force on July 1st, 2020. Vaping labels that are currently following the CCCR 2001 regulations may be updated now to meet the new requirements. Labels must include:
- A standardized nicotine concentration statement. If the product does not contain nicotine, a phrase may be chosen from a list of permitted expressions.
- A health warning, followed by attribution to Health Canada.
- Toxicity statement, first aid statement, and the skull and crossbones symbol.
- A list of ingredients, with new requirements on the disclosure of flavoring elements.
The exemptions for small-sized containers have changed as well. Tags attached to the immediate container, or leaflets may be used in certain instances.
As of January 1st, 2021, all immediate containers that are vaping devices, parts, or contain a vaping substance with more than 0.1mg/mL nicotine must be child-resistant.
