Health Canada Publishes Canada GHS Technical Guidance
By: Kirsten Alcock, Manager of Product Safety, email
Health Canada has released the first phase of the technical guidance for the implementation of Canada GHS. The guidance was released on June 29th, 2016. A copy of the guidance can be requested from Health Canada’s website.
Health Canada will be releasing the Technical Guidance in two phases in advance of the GHS deadline in June 2017. Phase 1 of the Technical Guidance focuses on classification principles, hazard communication, and the HMIRA Confidential Business Information (CBI). Phase 2 will be focusing on physical hazards and health hazard classification. Our sources indicate that Phase 2 will be released in the Fall of 2016.
Dell Tech will be analyzing the document to determine if the issues of harmonization between Canada and the US have been resolved. We encourage our clients to start the transition of their SDSs from the old Controlled Products Regulations (CPR) format to the new Hazardous Products Act (HPA) Canada GHS format. All SDSs must be converted over before June 2017.
If you have any questions regarding the transition, please contact us directly for further information.
