Cannabis & CBD: Clarification from Health Canada

 In Cannabis, news

Health Canada is working to provide clarity to the Cannabis Industry around who can cultivate, process, and manufacture products containing the increasingly popular phytocannabinoid, cannabidol (CBD).  In response to a high volume of questions regarding the regulation of CBD, Health Canada produced a fact sheet titled All About Cannabidiol.

Local AMCPR Applicant, Greenleaf Productions, works with area Licensed Hemp Producers and is delighted to see some guidance coming from Health Canada.  Greenleaf President, Mike Hodgson, fields inquiries from Canadian growers looking to get into the industry.  “By no means should hemp farmers be deterred by these guidelines.  Hemp is an ideal crop for Canadian farmers, in fact, Canada is one of the largest exporter of hemp fibre in the world,” says Mike. This fact sheet from Health Canada clarifies that Licensed Hemp Producers can cultivate CBD containing Hemp cultivars and sell into the growing market of Licensed Producers for processing. Hemp farmers in Canada are not able to extract CBD on site, however, the market for CBD is expanding and demand for their crop is going to skyrocket.

Greenleaf Productions, in conjunction with the London ON based Regulatory Compliance Firm Dell Tech, is developing a line of CBD products for the Canadian market.  Dell Tech President, Jennifer MacDonald, sympathizes with the confusion around Canada’s Cannabis Act and accompanying regulations.  “One of the biggest barriers to entry in the Cannabis market is a lack of understanding of the complex regulatory framework,” says Jennifer, “Dell Tech has been in the industry for almost 40 years and we have a team of consultants pouring over the regulations to support our growing client base in the Cannabis industry.”
