Unlocking GHS FAQ: Bridging US SDS to Canadian Compliance

 In news, Product Safety, WHMIS

Are you wondering if your US SDS meets Canadian standards?

The short answer is no.

While both countries have adopted the Globally Harmonized System (GHS), the US follows version 3 while Canada follows version 5. Simply translating the US SDS won’t suffice for Canada’s bilingual regulations. Compliance with WHMIS 2015 requires adherence to version 5 statements and inclusion of specific Canadian information. This includes details about the Domestic Substances List (DSL) and Canadian Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), which may differ from US regulations. Precautionary statements in Canadian SDSs are also formatted differently, with FULL CAPITALS used to emphasize critical safety information.
