National Day of Mourning

By: Kirsten Alcock, Manager of Product Safety, email

The National Day of Mourning is held annually in Canada on April 28. This day is dedicated to remembering the workers who have lost their lives, or suffered injury or illness on the job or due to a work-related tragedy. It is also a day to renew the commitment to improving health and safety in the workplaces. On this day, Parliament Hill will fly the Canadian flag at half-mast from sunrise to sunset. Workers and employees are encouraged to observe this day in various ways including lighting candles, donning ribbons and black armbands, and observing a moment of silence at 11am.  At this time, we pause to remember those who have lost their lives or been injured in the workplace.

Workplace deaths and injuries can happen by a variety of different modes. One in particular that happens often is the misclassification of hazardous chemicals within the workplace. Here at Dell Tech, we take hazard classification seriously. We research each and every raw material in your product to ensure that it is accurate. We use a variety of data sources such as but not limited to ECHA, CSST, CCOHS and privately owned database lists to come up with the appropriate classification not only for your raw materials but we take that data and analyze your product as a whole. Classifying your product is of utmost importance. It not only affects your SDS and associated label, but it impacts how workers use your product, the proper personal protective equipment they wear, how they handle, store and ship your product. If a product has been misclassified, this can lead to disastrous results for workers.

Please contact Dell Tech Laboratories for more information on our classification services. Together we can make the workplace safer for everyone.
