Health Canada: Keeping Canadians Safe Through Product Recalls

By: Kirsten Alcock, Manager of Product Safety, email

Health Canada’s mandate is to keep Canadians Safe.  One way they do this is by monitoring consumer products when imported and on the store shelves.  If Health Canada finds a problem with a consumer product, they may issue a product recall.  Consumer products can be recalled for various reasons including issues with product classifications, labelling or packaging.   All products sold to consumers in Canada must abide by the regulations whether they are Cosmetics, Natural Health Products, Cleaner products, Adhesives, Air Cleaners, Fragrances, Paints, Registered Disinfectant/Pesticide products etc. If Health Canada finds a product has not met one of the required regulations, they will be recalled and a public notice will be published.
